Why May is One of Our Favorite Months
Posted By Adrianne Anderson @ May 9th 2024 6:00pm In: Local Advice

May is a great month in coastal South Carolina for a variety of reasons. With our sub-tropical climate, the weather warms up and most cold snaps are gone. The temperature ranges from the 70’s in the morning and evening and 80’s during the day. Because schools aren’t out, the restaurants and tourist attractions aren’t over crowded. This is the perfect time as a local to get out and about and enjoy all the things that make our area a popular destination for visitors.

Our family likes to enjoy the beach all year but the strand is typically less crowded in May and you can bring outdoor games that take up room. In the summer, it can be rude to set up bocce, Kuub, or horseshoes when other folks are struggling to find a place for their chair or towel. We’ve also recently been to Broadway at the Beach a couple times and enjoyed the attractions there before summer officially starts. Pop Stroke is so much fun (Tiger Woods designed putt putt) and Paula Deen's kitchen is incredible!

May is also a busy time for gardeners with lots of landscaping, flower beds and planting to do. Veggie plants are growing and with our long warm season, you can enjoy summer crops until November most years. Our days also grow longer so you can enjoy more daylight which our family translates into walks around the neighborhood and hanging out in our backyard.

If you’re thinking about making a move to the Grand Strand so you can enjoy May as much as we do, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help!
